The Counselling and Student Support (CSSU), formerly called Guidance and Counselling Unit, of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) was established in 2012 to help staff and students address personal, familial, and professional issues that may affect their lives and performance.
The Unit is a vital resource for students, offering psychological support, career advice, and personal development services. It addresses academic stress, mental health issues, and personal worries, fostering resilience and confidence. Collaborating with staff, parents, and student organizations, it ensures resources for professional and personal development, preparing graduates for life and leadership roles.
The Unit, from inception, has since grown on several fronts. The Unit at the beginning had one Counselling Psychologist. It, however, now has (four) certified Counselling Psychologists (with three at Tarkwa campus and one at Essikado campus in Takoradi at the School of Railways and Infrastructure and Development) and has one Senior Administrator who manages the Unit’s Secretariat. The Unit also three divisions, called Sections, that offer specialized services and address challenges of same
